Did you catch your partner cheating on you? Did you fail a class because the professor was biased? Has your manager piled a ton of work on you at the last moment, again?

These are all legitimate reasons to be angry. However, some people have trouble expressing their anger in a healthy and safe way.

Try these creative ways to let out the steam and get everything off your chest.

Sing It Out

Your voice is a gift that can be used to help you feel better. We all know that some people like to sing in the shower. Why not kill two birds with one stone? Indulge in a little self-care while expressing your frustration and pent-up anger in a healthy way? Sing it out!

You could put on songs that resonate with what you’re feeling at the moment and what you’ve been going through. Don’t be afraid to create a long, carefully organized playlist that lasts you hours.

Use The Empty Chair Technique

This technique is typically used in Gestalt therapy and can assist you in addressing deep-rooted emotional issues. The severity of your anger is linked to the cause of your anger. The empty chair method is an effective and creative way to express your bottled up feelings.

Try this.

Sit down on a chair. Place a chair across from the one you are sitting on. Imagine that the person you want to direct your anger at is seated on that chair. Now, go ahead and say what you need to say. Don’t leave anything out. Talk to the chair or scream at it to your heart’s content.

Another safe way to express your pent-up rage is to assemble a line of pillows on your sofa and hit them one by one until all your anger leaves your system. As long as it helps you sort out your feelings, it’s all good.

Pro Tip: Do this when you’re home alone so you don’t terrify everyone there!

Have A Direct Talk

Once you’ve tried some of the above-mentioned methods of expression, you might finally be ready to have a one-on-one conversation with whoever it is that has upset you. You will feel less emotional and be able to choose your words wisely.

Explain the situation; highlight all the reasons that have made you angry and why you think it’s unfair. This’ll prevent a similar thing from happening in the future.
