4 Habits to Help You Lose Weight This Year

Some would argue that losing weight is more of a mental challenge than a physical one. It takes a toll on your well-being when you’re struggling to see and make sustainable changes, alter your body and make it fit a certain ideal shape, size, or type.

However, some habits can help make weight loss more accessible, sustainable, and pretty permanent if consistent with them. Learn more about what you can do this year to make weight loss a tangible reality:

1. Eating well and eating regularly

Eating well is the fundamental rule of sustainable, steady, and healthy weight loss. It’s something you cannot downplay no matter how hard you try because you can’t out-exercise a poor diet. That doesn’t mean you’ll need to eat all organic, shop at expensive new stores, or say goodbye to all your favorite foods forever, but rather that you’ll need to eat better more consistently. Don’t skip meals, get protein and veggies in, and eat throughout the day.

2. Drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated

Another habit you need to build is to drink water because that is also quite imperative to healthy, steady weight loss. Aim for at least 1-2 liters of water a day to maximize your weight loss efforts and make the most of your time. It’s easy, cheap, and great for your body.

3. Practicing self-care and meditating

Don’t neglect your mental and emotional well-being while you’re on this journey, however. Sustainable weight loss is only achievable when you focus on the mental, intangible aspect of your health also, which is why practicing self-care and doing things that make you happy is important. Meditate, work with a hypnotist, practice affirmations, or do other things that bring you joy and peace.

4. Adding some form of movement to your day

Don’t put pressure on yourself to become a world-class runner overnight or get ripped in a few weeks. Your body needs to be eased into movement, so one of the best and easiest ways to do that is by adding some form of movement, whether that’s walking, dancing, stretching, or yoga. So long as you’re not a couch potato or completely sedentary, that’s a win.
