Hypnosis for Treating Trauma

Trauma can affect us adversely and create so many mental health problems. Trauma can be in a variety of form. Grief and loss can create immense trauma, sexual abuse, physical abuse, rape and accidents can also be source of trauma. One can endure trauma while fighting in the war or being in dangerous zones where life can be in danger unexpectedly.

Regardless of how the trauma is endured, it impacts the life of a person very adversely. The person can become numb in feelings and might experience frozen emotions. Additionally, depressive symptoms such as isolation, withdrawal, crying spells, loss of interest in hobbies, internalization of anger and loss of sleep and appetite can result. Some people experience flashbacks and it impacts the sleep pattern of the person. Inability to form stable relationships, lack of trust and paranoia can also result from intense traumas. People can become very passive and lack assertiveness. Some people experience intense anxiety and panic. In summary, intense trauma can result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

How Safe is Hypnosis for Treating Trauma?

Hypnosis is a very safe and effective modality to address symptoms of PTSD. During hypnosis, the person achieves a deep trance and relaxes all the muscle groups. This produces alpha wave activity in the brain and the subconscious mind becomes highly receptive to the suggestions being offered. A trained hypnotist will then release the effects of trauma by having the person visualize putting all the negative memories, feelings and thoughts in a bag and dump it in the sea.

That’s one way to release the trauma. There are so many other creative ways of getting rid of the emotional baggage that the person carries. When the person does visualization in a safe setting of hypnotic trance, all the trauma gets a release from the subconscious mind and leads to freedom from the symptoms of PTSD.
